Do You Observe?
17 February 2020
Hi friends! It’s been almost a month since I’ve written a newsletter and to be honest, I just had no idea what kind of content to put out for everyone.
I didn’t want to constantly talk about my life, and I didn’t want it to seem as if I was bragging about my successes— but perhaps I need to take a different approach.
At my new job, my CEO told me that I was extremely observant and willing to investigate anything, just like a journalist, and that made me think, how would our lives change if we were just a tad bit more observant of our surroundings?
Here are a few things that I’ve observed over the last month or so, and how things have changed since observing:
Everyone on the train either uses their phones, or reads a book. We’re so used to looking at our phones that we don’t even bother interacting with others, and it’s starting to become a distraction. I’ve been trying my best to read more, whether it be on my Kindle or keeping an actual book in my backpack.
Really taking note of what my significant other enjoys helps me with buying presents for special occasions (but let me stress that it doesn’t ever have to be a special occasion to buy a gift for someone), or for what we need in our household.
I haven’t been drinking much water lately. It’s something that I’ve been trying to work on since December. We just get so caught up in everything that we tend to forget the basics. But I notice that drinking more water helps me think better, and most importantly, feel better.
These are just a few things; but they are things that make a huge difference in my everyday life. I just want you to know— you’ll be able to catch things you wouldn’t normally catch if you take the extra time and effort to do so.
Little Victories & Moments
🕹 Went to a bar arcade for the first time out in Somerville.
🇮🇳 Dinner date with my boyfriend at Kashmir, one of the first few places we’ve ate at together, on Valentine’s day. ❣️
🤑 Did my taxes online, by myself, for the first time.
A few things I’ve been indulging in—
👾 Mafia III, Witcher 3 (been watching my boyfriend play these 🤣), and Overcooked 2
🎶 “Face”, Joji, and “Drogba (Joanna)”
I hope you enjoyed this very short piece on being observant. Hopefully, I can take this moment as a push to put out more content! Please bare with me while I do so 🥺
Give me a follow on Instagram or Medium if you’d like to chat or read my work. I also help run a Slack group which is full of people from all over the tech world if you wanted to get some inspiration and feedback on your work! ☺️
Talk to you soon.
